How Do You Get Motivated?
Aside from finishing college and getting a pretty awesome job, I can be pretty darn lazy. In the next couple of months, I'm hoping to earn my real estate license, enroll in a sign language course, and finish at least three books recommended to me by friends (they WILL yell at me if I don't finish them). Other than not wanting to be yelled at, I have very little motivation to do any of these things. So, here are some ways I'm motivating myself to "get 'er done".
Picture the Future
What will the future look like if these goals are accomplished? If they aren't? Is the difference in these two futures significant? If you're looking to tackle one big goal that could change your life for the better, JUST DO IT! Any time you think you don't have the energy or the mental capability to handle anything more in your life, just think about how much better it could get. In my case, if I get my real estate license, I could potentially make enough money to move out and buy a vegetable once in a while. Accomplishing smaller goals is the same principal, but obviously won't have such significant results.
Remember the Feeling
You know that awesome feeling you get when you finally have clean underwear after putting off laundry day for a while? Imagine having that feeling all the time. If you do that thing you're dreading, you'll feel refreshed, accomplished, and occasionally pretty badass. If you put something off, you'll just be anxious and a little mad at yourself, and that's just not good for your self-esteem.
Reward Yourself
In the immortal words of Donna and Tom, "Treat Yo Self".
If you feel like you're denying yourself of something you really want while you're working on something else, just let yourself have it when you're done. For example, if you really want In-n-Out but you're trying to eat healthy, let yourself have a cheat meal after a certain goal (ten pounds down, eating healthy for a whole week). Maybe even compromise and make it a few days and have a burger protein style to save on carbs. It's the little victories that need to be rewarded in order to make the big victory more easily achievable.
Sharing is Caring
If you have any thoughts or feedback or extra knowledge, share it in the comments. The whole point of this blog is to help each other figure it all out!
*I just realized that I could call this the PRR Motivational Method. Let me know if you dig it.
